On Sunday, November 22 a Holy Communion took place in “Philadelphia” church, Izhevsk. Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov referred to 1 Cor. 11:26 “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes”. Proclaiming means that you inject your personality into the process of the Communion and feel the Christ’s Sacrifice in a deep way.

Pavel Zhelnovakov pointed out two things we should remember while partaking in the Communion:

1) What was Jesus’s attitude to His crucifixion?  His exploit was not the consequence of being in a hopeless situation, of some circumstances or people’s rage. But it was the result of His own conscious choice as He said in John 10:17-18: “The reason my Father loves Me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

2) Do we realize the power of the Blood poured out on the Cross? Jesus said: “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matt. 26:26-28)

We must ask ourselves whether we take the cup “for the forgiveness of sins”. Are we ready to give away with sins that so easily entangle us?  This is our choice that we can do because our heart longs for it as Jesus did, not because someone makes us do it. In John 12:24-25 He told us what should help us to make this choice: “ Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life”.

Preparing yourself to the Holy Communion ask yourself: “Am I ready to leave the sin today? Do I choose myself or I choose to serve the people around me?”
